Awaken’s Drop-in Center is located off 4th and Spokane St. — a hot spot for trafficking, prostitution, and CSE. The center is run by three survivors who care deeply about advocating for victims. The center serves individuals by addressing their basic and critical needs including safety, survivor support, food, and clothing.

When a potential program participant comes to Awaken, their first connection is often at the drop-in center. Upon arrival, they are welcomed by the drop-in advocate, who is a survivor herself, and whose role it is to assist in facilitating a safe and hospitable experience for the victim. From there, the individual is screened by either the drop-in coordinator, who is also a survivor, or a case manager. At this time, the participant is given the opportunity to communicate however much they desire regarding their life and the circumstances that brought them to Awaken. From there, they are able to share how they see Awaken best being able to support their goals. Awaken’s survivor run Drop-in Center aims to be a place of safety by being a consistent presence that provides for immediate, tangible needs and offers resources for help and hope.

Case Management

Awaken’s approach to Case Management is based on best practices and more than 10 years of experience working with this unique and often enigmatic population.

Case Management includes opportunities for education, therapy, mentoring, groups, employment and housing assistance. Awaken aims to improve the well-being of program participants by increasing opportunities for participants to attain self-reliance and stability. The program consists of modules which the participants move through — the emphasis is not completing the modules, but instead, on moving through the issues that are most relevant at that specific time (parenting, trauma, life skills, emotion regulation, etc.). Modules consist of several weekly groups along with activities and case management meetings. Participation is strongly encouraged through earned incentives in order to obtain each individual’s desired healthy lifestyle.

The organization’s supportive services, including clinical and case management services, helped victims to regularly attend therapy, return to school, complete their GEDs, secure new jobs, reunite with family members, and more. In short, Awaken is seeing victims get the support necessary to heal and live lives they never thought possible.
